Highlights from past Airshows

Pictures of the 2003 Texas Yamboree Airshow

For the first annual airshow and fly-in in 2000, Gilmer renamed the municipal airport to Fox Stephens Field. Keynote speakers were test pilots Bob Gilliland (Lockheed SR-71) and Joe Cotton (USAF B-58 and B-70). Appropriately, the Lockheed F-117 Stealth Fighter made three passes in honor of Col. Stephens.

Also, 'a once in a lifetime' opportunity to see the flight of a modern F-16 Fighter jet flown by Lt. Col. Jack Presley, flying in formation with a WW II vintage T-6 Texan, flown by Jack's father, Lt. Col. Randy Presley, USAF ret......a rare father-son duo

2001 brought Lt. Gen. Phil Ford to honor the 384th Bomb Group of the 8th Air Force, which served in Grafton Underwood, UK during WW II. The show was just a month after 9/11, so when the B-2 thundered overhead and made a burner pass at warp speed, you can imagine the emotions in the audience.

In 2002 John Truesdell, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Air Force, came and helped pay tribute to the men of the 98th Bomb Group who flew in Operation TidalWave on the Ploesti, Romania oilfields August 1, 1943.

The B-52 fly-by was an emotion stirring tribute as Secretary Truesdell inaugurated the Gilmer High School Jr. AFROTC and administered the swearing in of six Air Force recruits.
